Congratulations to ISL Faculty Affiliate, Juyeong Choi. He and FSU researcher Lichun Li, received the Faculty Early Career Development, or CAREER, award. He is an assistant professor for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and will receive a five-year grant from the NSF.

Jie Chen, Ph.D., is an assistant professor at the Florida State University College of Nursing. His research projects focus on pain and symptom management in older adults with multiple chronic conditions (MCC), i.e., cancer and cardiovascular disease. He is also interested in promoting cardiovascular health of older adults with cancer. His long-term research plan is to develop a comprehensive understanding of the bio-behavioral and multi-omics mechanisms of pain and pain self-management among older adults with MCC.

Congratulations to Dr. Joe C. Watso, an ISL Affiliate, who is the Principal Investigator for an American Heart Association Career Development Award ($231,000) on:

“A New Time-Efficient Respiratory Training to Improve Blood Pressure and Vascular Function in Adults with Obesity”.

A study conducted by Chris Martin, Institute for Successful Longevity Faculty Affiliate and assistant professor of Psychology, and researchers at the University of Toronto shows that a smartphone application they developed can enhance memory function in older adults.  

For the more than 6 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease, related dementias, or mild cognitive impairment, anxiety is often an accompanying challenge.

A Florida State University psychologist has received a five-year, $3.7 million grant from the National Institute on Aging to study intervention techniques that aim to combat anxiety in these groups and improve quality of life.

Dawn Carr and Miles Taylor, both Faculty Affiliates of the Institute for Successful Longevity, have received a grant from the National Institutes of Health for more than $400,000 to study the health effects of psychological resiliency.

A national expert on aging will join researchers from Florida State University in a December 15 panel discussion on “Technology for Home Health Monitoring” that is open to the public.
