Dr. Zhe He Elected as Fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics

August 4, 2025

Dr. Zhe He, Director of the Institute for Successful Longevity (ISL) and Professor in the School of Information at Florida State University, has been elected as a Fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI), one of the highest international honors in the field of biomedical and health informatics.

Each year, IAHSI, the honorific society of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA), recognizes a select group of leading experts from around the world for their exceptional contributions to research, education, and leadership in the field of health informatics. In 2025, IAHSI elected only 17 new Fellows globally, with 11 of them from the North American region, underscoring the significance and competitiveness of this honor.

Dr. He expressed his deep appreciation upon learning of his election:

“It is truly humbling to be elected to IAHSI,” Dr. He said. “I never imagined this kind of recognition when I began my research journey. This honor belongs to the many people who have supported me along the way, my mentors, collaborators, students, and mentees, as well as the incredible community at Florida State University. I am especially grateful to ISL and FSU for providing such a supportive and interdisciplinary environment to pursue impactful research.

Dr. He’s research is at the intersection of artificial intelligence, clinical informatics, and patient-centered technologies. He leads the eHealth Lab at FSU, where he and his team develop AI-driven tools to enhance clinical decision-making, health communication, and health equity, with a focus on aging, chronic disease management, and underserved populations.

He has authored more than 130 peer-reviewed publications and has served as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator on federal grants totaling over $21 million from agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

In addition to his research achievements, Dr. He is widely respected for his leadership in the informatics community. He currently serves as Chair of the AMIA Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining Working Group, Social Media Editor for the Journal of Biomedical Informatics, and editorial board member for JAMIA, PLOS ONE, Smart Health, Journal of Healthcare Informatics Research, BMC Digital Health, and BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making.

Dr. He will be formally inducted as an IAHSI Fellow at the upcoming MEDINFO Conference in Taipei in August 2025, joining a distinguished global cohort of leaders advancing the field of health informatics.
